Saveetha University, Chennai, officially known as Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), is one of India’s leading private deemed universities, recognized globally for excellence in medical education, healthcare, research, engineering, law, management, and allied sciences. The foundation of Saveetha University began in 1986 with the establishment of the Saveetha Medical and Educational Trust by Dr. N.M. Veeraiyan, Founder and Chancellor of SIMATS. Dr. Veeraiyan is a distinguished educationist, healthcare visionary, Tamil scholar, and philanthropist who dedicated his efforts to promoting medical relief, education, and research across India. Under his leadership, Saveetha Dental College and Hospital was established in 1988, followed by Saveetha College of Nursing in 1992 and Saveetha College of Physiotherapy in 1993. To fulfill the requirements for deemed university status, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS) was established in 2001 and officially declared a “Deemed-to-be University” in 2005 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.

Dr. Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan, Pro-Chancellor of SIMATS, is an internationally trained academic leader with qualifications from the University of Toronto and Harvard University. Dr. V. Thiagarajan serves as Pro Vice Chancellor (Research), leading advanced research programs in biotechnology, molecular biology, stem cell research, and regenerative medicine. Prof. Dr. Sheeja S. Varghese, Registrar (Academic), has contributed significantly to academic administration, dental education, research, and curriculum innovation. Prof. Dr. V. Vishnu Priya, Dean of Accreditation, is recognized for her work in cancer biology, herbal medicine, and quality assurance systems. Located across a sprawling 180+ acre campus in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Saveetha University includes more than 16 constituent colleges such as Saveetha Medical College and Hospital, Saveetha Dental College, Saveetha School of Engineering, Saveetha School of Law, Saveetha School of Management, Saveetha College of Pharmacy, Allied Health Sciences, Architecture and Design, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy.
